Couldn't agree more - it was even better staying up to watch the wickets tumble!

But, beware the wounded beast!

I wouldn't worry too much about that .Oz won't win a test this series. Reminds me of the early eighties when we got beat by everyone after lillee, chappell's, etc retired. Same this time around there no replacements for warne, mcgrath and co and its going to get worse before it gets better.

What do I do? I just cut the grass.

Warney was asked on air the other day and he said "unlikely but you can never say never". he does look slim but probably has been giving his Mums slimming drugs a right bashing and wouldnt pass a drugs test!
Aussies have lost half a side and have found, so far, no one to replace them that are anywhere near the class of the ones who have retired.

Too many Aussies retiring at the same time. Lack of future planning. For the last 20 years they were bringing in youngish guys to a winning team - Ponting, Lee, Clarke, Hussey etc.

England learnt this and jettisoned the likes of Caddick and Hoggard when they probably could have still done a job. Collingwood is next on the list.....

Yep agree with that Sean. Only difference is, would you want to drop the likes of McGrath,Gilchrist etc before they said they wanted to go?
We wernt risking that much with the guys we dropped.

Thats what these challenges are for to make the ump look a dick, one in the last innings challenged an lbw the ball supposedly just clipping the bails, sorry your out mate give me a break dont even know how true this technology is.

I didnt see that much live but on the highlights if that had been given out at club level hitting way above the kneeroll would have been a bad one.

He's not the only one getting things wrong.

Not sure which game you were watching but my sources inform me that the four umpires were

Standing: Marais Erasmus and Tony Hill,

Third and fourth: J J Crowe, and Billy Doctrove

Shocker? Pot, Kettle... Noir

Sorry meant Hill.
The thing is, I think most of the umpires nowadays are much better than in days of yore like your Dickie Birds etc because they are under such scrutiny. But the referral system does show up the ones that arent so good, and he isnt very good.

Barry
The umpire has a split second to make a decision not 6 or 7 looks at a replay and then be overuled by technology which just might not be as accurate as they think, why not let the umps just count the balls and leave the rest to the machine, at club level the ones that occasionally get it wrong are better than the ones that arnt going to give a decision all day.

PS can I add umpires and skip drivers to your list.

Lol Paul
No mate I have a lot of time for umpires at all levels! Just think Mt.Hill had a stinker.
We will never know how accurate the technology is.

Good grief, those Aussies are struggling, they ve picked another left arm spinner in the forlorn hope he will trouble Pietersen. He has played 5 first class games. Not that youngish ( mind you he is 26) Oz players ever play a lot of first class games as they just dont play that much.

Also brought back Johnson, I suppose he has remodeled his action in the week he has had off!

Although I'm a bit of a "not outer" myself, I can't help agree with Paul. Several years ago Gehan Mendis was at our club dinner. The discussion went round about umpires and he was asked who was rated and who wasn't on the county circuit. He said that the "outers" like Ray Julian were much preferred to the "not outers" such as Dickie Bird, even by batsmen. When asked why, he said that as a batsman you knew you had to get bat on ball, but the main reason was that there was no way at first class level you could actually win enough games to achieve anything without an "outer" standing. Quite an interesting comment.

Ive always thought Dickie Bird was overated. Its not umpiring to stand there all day and say not out until someone nicks one almost to 1st slip.
