I thought the idea of being asked such a question was to answer it yourself and not get others to do it.

In fact, is not the principle behind this way of working that the researching of the answer will give you a broader knowledge of the subject than just the answer itself?

For this reason I'm not answering the question! Of course I probably couldn't answer it anyway.

nvq question

hi michael i understand you require help on your level 2. 1,regarding climate and soil conditions.the intensity of play is governed by climate and ground conditions.for example when frosty playing on the surface will fracture the sward resulting in black footprints and greatly increase stress on the plant so best way is to stay off.2.when the surface is exesivley wet the more surface damage will occur ie,cutting up more.also the more waterlogged the rootzone the less air is present resulting in anearobic soil conditions which is detrimental to the surface and it`s recovery.sand based pitches is great for increased percolation of surface water, the reason sand constructions are favoured at football level.the more clay and soil prelevant the reduced drainage rates so the pitch will take far longer to dry resulting in less playing time.Type and frequency of operations depends what sport it is,i manage 9 grass courts and rolling is a major part of my maintenance, not on a football pitch as heavy rolling is not an option.types of maintenance inc cutting, scarifying, rolling, verticutting, irrigation and aeration.the essential tool is knowing when to carry out these operations.cutting is governed by as and when conditions are suitable.when growth is prelevant i daily clipp, especialy around tournamants but when i have a bit of breathing space with play i will cut maybe 3 times a week or a small relaxation in cutting height to slightly reduce the stress on the plant. In the cooler months cutt depending on soil conditions ie don`t cut when wet or frosty.scarifying, deep scarifying is done at renovation time to devoid the surface of thatch and unwanted vegetation.butt scarifying has to be carried out when there is growth, around 3 to 4 weeks of good growing weather to enable the grass to recover from this vigourus operation.don`t heavy rip out during the season not unless you have a long break in playing, verticutting is carried out most of the growing season once a week to help the pitch to breath and reduce poa.because the verticutter does not penetrate into the surface regular use of this is ok.aeration is a must regulary to open up the surface to reduce stress and to alow oxygen and light into the profile helping with drainage as well as thatch breakdown by microbial action.hollow coring is for a soil exchange or thatch breakdown directly and indirectly.slitting, although not reccomended on heavy soils ie,cricket and tennis.sliiting is a great root pruning teqnique.generaly aeration is practised to assist with drainage.deep aeration is not practised regulary, maybe 3 to 4 times a year.shallow aeration is practised regular througout the season once a week.i hope i have been able to help.if you need any more help phone me on 0113 2251480.
