Message Board - Football: Fusarium/snow mould
10 Jan 2011 by Greenfingers
I look after a non league standard football pitch which has suffered with the recent cold weather.
It is virtually 100% Ryegrass but now appears to have fusarium/Snow Mould.
We have had no games for about 5 weeks for various reasons but not because the pitch has been unplayable.
It has looked a bit sad for itself and over Christmas I managed to drag mat the pitch a couple of times to freshen it up and try and stand the grass back up.
The grass length was about 32mm but today i have topped a couple of mm off and it looks a bit better.
The bosses would prefer not to spend a couple of hundred quid spraying the pitch because there has been no revenue generated recently.
Given this weeks weather and the short term forecast should the grass recover naturally or do you think it requires spraying?
TIA

I would say it is taking a gamble with the elements dependent
on the weather if it holds off and not as bad as last year where we had snow right up to march and the ground temp has a steady increase from mid feb you should be ok as long as you continue to work on it and use some Sierrasol Iron Soluble Fertiliser in the spring to help green up.

Thanks for that Keith, this will move the thread to the top as another mamber was asking a similar question.
