Message Board - Natural Turf: wanted

31 Jan 2011 by Peter Anthony Harsum

Dear Pitchcare Message Board Readers

I am at a complete loss, I was made redundant back in May 2010 where I was a Head Greenkeper, since then I have registered with a few known agencies and carrying out temporary work for the local council as a Groundsman for parks and sports, but nothing full time.

I have done the usual things, adjusting my CV, gain more qualifications (Diploma L3 2010/11), I ve even had some help form old work colleges and even some reliable sales reps

I ve applied for jobs that may be out of reach or within reasonable distance with the hours we all generally work, I thought with my experience I may be able to carry out these tasks, but with the low salaries at some starting levels, alot of it would go on just getting to the job

I am passionate about the results you get from the sports turf industry, and the satisfaction you feel of a job well done, I am writing this to see if there are any vacancies in the West Sussex area, 15 mile radius of Gatwick Airport

Kind regards

Peter Harsum

Hi Peter, A situation that is heard all too often these days. I am sorry to hear of your dilema and wish you success in finding a suitable position soon.

I have a fulltime gardeners position vacant for someone with experience, but unfortunately, we are based in the Midlands.

Peter,
Apologies if you have already tried "cold calling " with your C.V.and covering letter.e.g. chairman crawley football club. you would like to join their team of ground staff, to give the players the playing surface they deserve. " they have plenty of money at the moment."
If you want to send me your C.V., p.m. for the address.
Good luck, and well done for the positive frame of mind.
Have you thought of self employment?

Peter,

i m likewise looking for employment in east anglia really but i dont have much experience only volunteered at village team and a couple of days done here and there at semi pro clubs. I dont have qualifications either so i m going to struggle finding a job but its still not putting me off sending cv's, emails, ringing and visiting clubs, colleges, grounds etc.

just keep going and i like you was made redundant and am looking into funding for courses, weather its short course or college is another question. something will turn up!!!!!

good luck
