Guys my Local football club are looking into purchasing a new Regal or Mastiff for there new stadium pitch. Obviously it will be a 36" or 42" as Allett do a larger cylinder mower that size.
My question is does anyone have experience in both of these mowers?.
I have often used the old Mastiff at my site which is lighter and easier to set up cylinders etc to the Allett where its more robust i felt?. Both are excellent mowers however and before a possible demo just wanted some inside knowledge gents.
Cheers
hi there i ve heard from groundsman i know they prefer the allett due to it being bigger, and more robust but havent heard a lot about the mastiff ones i m afraid.
which club is this ?? and i d get demo's of both then decide from there and also take in what people have to say on here...
Have you considered Dennis at all?
Of course the grass looks good. The sun is shining.
Villager, Dennis Prem everytime. Light, easy to use, good support and a great finish.
Whilst my experience is limited I have used both Allett and Mastiff.
Taken as a whole I think there's little to choose between them. I reckon the Mastiff is that little bit easier for maintenance though.
As above, have a demo of both and see which you feel most comfortable with.
From the posh end of the room!!
Vic my boss said about Dennis. I will certainly get a demo from the two most popular and from my experiences the Mastiff and Dennis mowers are easier with maintenance and are less robust.
The Allett i used before was a pain because of its hydro stat kept playing up and it was hard work with the adjusting the cylinders.
Which manufacturer supplied mowers to all of the world cup venues in SA? None of the above I believe. If you are trialling, why not also consider them?

Villager, as this is for your stadium, have you considered the Dennis G860 cassette system, different beast all together than the others mentioned, 34", perhaps give RTM at Aylesbury a call and ask Jim to bring you one down for a demo.
See you Thursday pal.

I do believe dennisisis supplied 18 mowers for the world cup? could be wrong might be 19.
Our place had a dennis prem for over 45yrs. i used it for 10 of though`s.. Had a new mag kubota engine fitted and it was fantastic. solid & reliable. when it was replaced i do belive it went on to a football ground.
Also used both allett & mastiff and are worth considering also but to me it has to the dennis prem every time, bomb proof....
Grow in grace...........

We have used all three companies mowers, Mastiffs are good if you have an old one, we have had all sorts of trouble with a new one we bought. We have a Dennis G760 and that does a good job on the rare occasions we use it. The bulk of our work is done with Allett Buffalos, great mowers and half the weight of a mastiff or Dennis Premier, although I believe comparable with a G760, and also half the price almost. Not quite the machines you were asking about but the same manufacturers all the same. If it's a new pitch, do you want/need a heavy mower on it creating unwanted compaction?

I've had a couple of Mastiffs, They are very easy to maintain, very reliable and give a good cut. My only problem is that they were a supurb machine twenty years ago but unfortunately haven't moved on or really improved. I demo'd a new one last year and was really dissapointed. A good, robust machine but the lack of steering brakes is a no-no for me in this day and age.
I've had two large Allets - the 36" and the 42". They are good machines to use. I particularly liked the control offered by the twist grip handle but alas they no longer make them like this. I personally find Allet machines a pain to work on and the hydrostat is unreliable.
The best 36" mower I have ever used is the Dennis Premier by a country mile. It is supurbly balanced, easy to maintain, well built and the customer service is second to none. My Premier is a diesel engine too and it will go for ages on a thimbleful of fuel - not to be sniffed at in this day and age! It may be worth you considering one of the large Dennis casette mowers as it will give you the chance of having a few options, ie cutting unit, scarifier, verticutter etc etc.
Dennis were also very accomodating and moved the throttle for me (which I thought could be better placed) and smoothed the rear roller. They get 10 out of ten from me.
I stand educated!

Boys really interesting responses here from excellent people within our industry.
It would be a machine that isn't a brute and is easy to handle when turning and obviously the less weight the less compaction it will have. We too had a Allett with the twin grips and a dodgy hydrostat so my experiences with that puts me of a little. But will hopefully get the club to get a demo from Allett, Dennis and Jacobsen and see whats on offer and whats the best deal on offer also.
