just wondering if they had the funds for a new ground surely they have the price of a liner
well technically its a farmers field or was and they had been playing on village college pitch until it was ready and it was all given to them. like the team i look after i inherited a 30+ yr old transfer wheel marker which was near impossible to use so i forked out my own money and brought myself a kombi one.... and line markers arent exactly cheap now days
u should charge the club to line the field

David - if you consider that £350 will get you a nice new transfer marker, and factor in that the one you inherited lasted 30 years, they work out very cheap.
This club have had a playing field donated to them, yet they won't pay for a marker... come on now David, even you must see that everyone wanting something for nothing is dragging this whole industry down. Facilities cost money - that's a fact, and if organisations aren't willing to fund even the most basic of essentials, then they shouldn't be committing to taking such a venture on.
To be fair, it's far from impossible - take a recent post from Laurence - £1 per player, per session, to go towards the upkeep of the grounds. If all clubs followed this route, they would all have shiny new markers, and a whole load more, instead of taking on someone else's 30 year old junk, which is near impossible to use...
Mike
i totally agree with you and they might well have to pay for decent one or get the council in to mark it all out weekly but i just said i d ask around thats all see if theres someone selling one.
i agree i had 6 months of meetings before i got funding for our pitch and get a few hundred every yr just for pitch work. i wanted to get every player paying signing on fee of £5-£10 which would go on pitch work eg verti draining or seed or line marking paint as most teams dont bother as long as its cut and marked out they think thats it. Since i ve been doing it i appreciate what goes into it and admire everyone in the industry for doing it weather its paid or voluntry.
but some that run teams dont realise what does go into the pitch etc and therefore wont pay out. but totally understand what your saying and where your coming from.

... then the best thing that you can do in this instance is simply refuse to help them. Explain the cost of the equipment, and the ongoing cost of materials, and leave it up to them to sort out. They will not pull their heads out of the sand if you keep bailing them out.
very true mike and am finding that out with team i m involved with as i ve played for them for 10 yrs am groundsman club and match sec and was joint manager until some things happened with the younger lads that i didnt think was right so stood down. only to find out i was being slagged off by few members of the team etc for making excuses not to play etc etc so will be having words this week as if they think that then they can have old line marker back and do it all themselves and offer another team a hand. simples
Why all the upset?
Every club started at the bottom once - and a few are close to finishing up there.
When you look at the cost of setting up a new facility it is enormous. This is a club starting out in the ground ownership life and they appear to be sensibly looking at ways of spreading the money they have. They also have to get goal posts, nets, probably build changing rooms etc. Perhaps they should have waited to accept the offer of the ground until they had more money - but what if the offer was time bounded? Sometimes clubs are very lucky, and have to take a risk - and ask for help.
Yes David - I have an old line marker in the shed and if the club is willing to travel to North Lincs I will gladly help them out. It is sat at the back of the shed though because it is not very good and was replaced by a decent one that I got free off a club that was folding. I think it would be no real use to a football club because the wheels are only about 4" diameter and so only good on dry ground.
It isn't asking for help that drags the groundcare industry down.
The ciderman rolls
Hi Jontaylor,
well the club were very lucky as the farmer that donated a field (which is now a pitch) was involved in the club when he was late teen so was always looking to help and the club have had the changing rooms built through partial football foundation grant and through a sponsor so thats all sorted. i ve offered advice on how to fund raise etc and mentioned that as they are a saturday club they dont pay signing on fees for players like they used to so instead every player pays £15 to sign on and this goes towards ground cost or getting someone in to do for them.
as for goalposts they got a good offer from a semi pro club that were upgrading and i ve given them our old nets as we have had them 10 yrs and someone donated money to us to get colour coded ones. Well the ground they were sharing wasnt up to stratch as the people or club that owned it didnt keep it up to stratch with work etc so they were always looking to find somewhere else.
i d love to see some pics mate if you can but i know it was a long shot on here but you never know and i think they are looking for a triple mower and some other bits but i m not entirely sure at the moment.
thanks
Ive got one for free, collection only. West London
