Winter games pitch maintenance/aeration

Type in aeration in the search box above; there's lots of info about.

For winter games pitch maintenance check out the maintenance diaries in the magazine.

Generally, aerate as often as you can in the right conditions (see Peter27's 8th Jaunary question on these Turf Messages) using whatever you've got, ideally solid tines as deep as possible. I use what I've got which is a tractor mounted slitter to 8" depth and a Pattison pedestrian spiker, solid tines to 4".

I and many others on this site work on winter games pitches - just ask any questions. One important tip - keep your rollers locked away for the winter.
