Waterloo Sunset.

Any one remotely interested in the festival this week? For me it is the highlight of the sporting year, 4 days of top end competition, man and beast against the obstacles.
Has to be better than a few more days of cricket on the box, which few people are interested in and it goes on for ever, only to descend into another boring competition that is the IPL. Roll on summer and the championship, but for this week enjoy the spectacle which is sport at the very top level.

Ah horse racing is it? Afraid not mate. I'm the only one of a long line of Glynns who lives isn't dictated by the Sporting Life but each to his own.

Paul, I envy you being a part of the atmosphere. The last time I went, Bula fell and I had to nurse my motorbike home on reserve tank as I didn't have the money for any petrol. Taken by all you bookmakers. Have a great 4 days, I shall be recording the action and timing tea break for about 3.20pm each day.

Hell Vic thats stretching the memory Bula, Comedy of Errors, Lanzarotte, sounds like 73ish, reckon you would have had your tank overflowing then for the cost of 1 litre today.

Not a bad shout that grasswatcher, he ran a cracking race and at 33-1 shame they didn't pay on fourth. How good is Ruby Walsh though?
The track looked superb, as ever.

What a great 4 days of top class sport and the biggest advert for racing was The Gold Cup, it had everything.

You see Barry, that's just it. I don't need to bet to enjoy good sport. Anyway to gamble, you have to be able to afford to lose and on a groundsmans money, that ain't gonna happen. My 50p stayed firmly in my pocket, which is a good thing as I only picked one winner, and he was about evens favourite. For me it was all about the spectacle, cricket authorities could learn a great deal, leave the crowd wanting more rather than playing endless tournaments which go on and on and then morph into another tournament.

Fair enough Vic.
Mind you, my old Dad used to say "its just a bit of fun" but only told us when he won!
Yep, one day cricket is done to death now. Going down the football route, flogging it to death.
Tight world cup though with no firm favourite in my book.
We ve scrapped through, Bangers just got smashed by the saffies

Hi Vic totally agree cheltenham is the olympics of national hunt racing, what a gold cup and being irish we had alot to cheer for this week. Compare to cricket watching paint dry is more exciting any sport where u stop for tea and play the same teams week in and week out i find it very boring but everyone to their own, hopefully we will win the rugby today and stop u guys wining the grandslam, how could u compare cricket to game like today's in dublin real mans game...........

Cricket , greatest game in the world! Chess in whites.
I always watch the rugby but really it's a game for yobs played by toffs! I do like watching the internationals though but some of the laws are unfathonable.

Hi Vic
Back from the festival fairly unscathed and after yesterday im not too sure were in a recession, 2nd bet in on gold cup at 12 o,clock £600 on Kauto at 15/2 went off a lot shorter, then 10 mins before off another £600 on Long Run at 4/1 the man was shaking when he drew his 3 grand.
The high for me was Big Bucks and Ruby Walsh, but I thought Grand Cru was given a shocking ride, too far back to test the best 3 miler.
The low for me was my £5 ew at 33/1 on Son of Flikka who jumped the last like a winner only to get caught on the line.

Hey Paul, glad you had a great time, I thought it was a great advert for the sport. Would have loved to see Kauto win and that's why I wont bet because my heart rules my head. Big Bucks was the only winner I picked, the competition was grand. Had to feel for the young fella in the foxhunters though, poor lad, not sure he would have won but for a moment his heart must have been fluttering.
Role on next festival, wish I still felt the same about cricket seasons.

Sorry Vic sentiment didnt come into it in the foxhunters we had that for plenty it was the difference between a slight profit on Friday and diiiisaster.
