The true meaning of life is to plant trees, under who’s shade you do not expect to sit.

It looks like we have sunshine and showers over the next couple of weeks, so now is the time to get a feed on and take advantage of the growth surge that is coming!

I would say that today and tomorrow is a your best opportunity for applying both fertiliser and top-dressing, since soil temperatures will go up to around 12c. and top-dressing will soon get washed in!

Spring is early this year..... lets hope it hangs around!

Hi Ken, got the bowling green verticut 4 times today and hope to get some dressing down tomorrow, ready for the rain on Wednesday, will try and get a spike in as well but not sure I will have the time. Going to trial some Velvet Bent as well, reports have been encouraging.

Yesterday I used our SISIS tilth n seed to overseed our new football pitch at around 20 g/m2

Hopefully I have the timing just right!

We will be using the pitch next season but also hosting a one off friendly game on Good Friday, 22nd April so I'm interested to learn how you would manage the pitch over the next four weeks.

My thoughts are cutting it in 3 weeks time, just taking the top off with our ride on rotary mower and cutting it again (shorter) the day before the game.

Leaving the cuttings on both occasions, following up with a home made rubber drag mat to leave some nice stripes for presentation!

Temperatures here are currently dropping again.
soil temp at 2pm today was a mere 6 degrees.

Ken, I always say work with the weather and ignore the forecast, then what do I do but plan a day like today only for it to rain all morning!!! Still that allowed for spiking, bit of VB down, dressing on, drag mat in, now it can rain as forecast...........................................wonder what will happen overnight???

Hi Vic,
I heavy top-dressed my newly built tees today. It was perfect for drying and it in. It is expected to rain from early evening and most of tomorrow here in the Midlands so that will suit this job a treat.

It must have been the driest March on record?

Got Feed our squares to day, Been humming and harring, for past few days weather to go with liquid feed or granular. This nice bit of wet stuff is just the job, and pitches crying out for it.

At this rate i'll have nothing to do for easter half term? Look forward to the egg hunting....

and once you are finished at Ken's swing by our place... 6 pitch renovations, two running tracks to set out, 5 squares to get set up, 2 sets of nets, weedkilling at 2 sites, an open day to set up for... ohh, and a load of gardening courtesy of some resident staff...

Hey Mike I was first...... besides Andy is a few hundred miles closer to me. i.e. one small car journey and not a plane or ferry, followed by riding bare-back on a mule to some place in the middle of no-where, where half the people speak a different language!

Ken... I would take a trip on a mule any day, over my latest flight to Newcastle a couple of weeks ago... poxy 16 seat plane, no flight attendant, no toilet, no refreshments, no head room, no cockpit door, a Romanian pilot called Olaf who doesn't speak a word of English... that thing wasn't fit to carry cargo, nevermind someone who's already terrified of flying!!!

And as for Andy... they do direct flights from B'ham to the island, 40 minutes and he's here!!

Yes brew's, all my bugs arrived yesterday. And thanks to your help, when school breaks up next wed, the first one will be fired up!

Mike, you got three weeks to get all that sorted. On a good day i can get our 400m track done in a day? Got pitches to renovate too. But 5 squares? Your gonna be a busy bunny this Easter? Fair play to you....

Andy - staff holidays don't exactly help, plus that bank hols, plus the 8 rounders pitches, and the various other stuff... wouldn't be fun if I got a chance to sit down though!

Newcastle mike! I don't travel that far when i go abroad on me jollys. And there no way am i flying for 40mins with no in flight meal and no hair stewardess to fluff my pillow wile i have a kip, Cargo hold or not.

Just to keep the original thread going chaps. Overseeded two bowling greens today. Finished one at approx 11am and soil temp was 9.6 on leaving. On finishing the second one at approx 13.30, approx 4 miles away, temp was 11.9.
So drop of rain now will be brilliant.
I am not a massive fan of dogs, but i always had a weak spot for a pair of puppy dog noses!!!!!!!!

I applied my first compost tea brew of the season today...... Had no choice about applying it in this wind since I started the brew early yesterday! Thank god for Bubble Jet nozzles..... A god send in windy conditions!

Lovely drop of rain last night and a little more to come yet. Lets hope it falls in our favour...... Like overnight!
