Message Board - Bowls: Rink Rotation
31 Mar 2011 by Keith-W
At the green I am at they run a colour rink rotation system blue white yellow green and that changes daily is this a standard system among bowls , is there an Official body out there for advice on set up of rinks ? .
I intend on measuring out the rinks because I know most of the rinks are well out not been maintained at all up till now
just seems like a big job.
Any pointers / help
Muchas gracias

Keith measuring the rinks is an easy job, just get the EBA handbook or look up rules on web, they give sizes, find the centre of each end and away you go. Bit like when you need 7 or 8 rinks.
As for rotation our lot used to like the daily move routine as they would know which mark they would be on and arrange matches accordingly. I have since changed that however, if the green isn't used, why change the mark? I change when I feel it is needed, that could be daily or it could be every three days. Same with changing direction.
Probably wrong but it work for me.

Very much a standard practice Keith. I have just the same. If you want advice you can get a great deal from the English Bowls Association
Look under the services tab and the maintenance. Take a good look also at the useful information for clubs too as there is as it says useful information.

Do have a look also at the bowls diaries on this site or alternatively use the search box at the top of the page.

Beat me to it Vic, I'm the same in that I won't bother to move the rink if it's not used but then we generally have a match or practice going on 7 days a week.

Cheers Guys , I knew it was a simpleton question but had to ask
There current colour markers are old milk tops some are missing or broke , the chances of me getting enough red & blue milk tops I'd have to drink a lot of milk ;)
what do you use ?

Ours are simple painted lines on the inside edge of the concrete ditch that surrounds our green so you cant see them when you are on the green.

That sounds like a plan as long as it is not in view it wont contravene with the rules

Think ours came from an electrical outlet Keith, they are hard plastic disks with a hole in the middle for a nail, got a bagful here and will find out from our handyman, where they came from.
Never be afraid to ask any question, if you get a reply from me, it must be simple!!
