The great North South Divide
Is it my imagination or how come nearly all the job adverts are for down south of this great country. Doesn't anyone northwards want any good qualified groundsmen or is it just that those down south are no good at there job.I await for your views and comments

I believe the reason for this is because of the lower pay offered and the high cost of living down south.
No one can afford this.
Accomadation is only offered to the head groundsman or grounds manager position.

Pete and the "North South Divide"
Pete I feel so so sorry for you. Where is your problem? I think your main reason for the subject you talk of, is to try and create a problem between the southern Gman and the northern Gman! I think Gmen across the whole country work real hard to achieve the best they can! some have crap bosses some have no money no budget but still work real hard to do the best they can. Myself I know what i do may not reward the best but they do get the best surfaces to use. What about you Pete, where do you work (sounds like yor not happy and the vibes i get from you makes you very bitter?? I may be wrong!) Back to your VERY VERY wrong comment that the southern Gman "are no good at THEIR jobs" I think you will not get far if you contiue this very sad type of direction! I know quite a few Northern Gmen who dont feel the way you do and also a load of southern Gmen that have no problem either! I even know Northern Gmen that have moved to the south to progress their career and dont feel the way you do! so I do think its your problem. If there are jobs advertised and you go for them you should get them (if your as good as you think) while i agree with chris the cost of living makes a difference. i also believe when you move jobs or location you must weigh it all up then make the choice! I also see loads of northern based Gmen happy with the way they live and work! thats another reason for small amount of movement. maybe you should do some more investigating before slaging off the southern Gmen! Last thing I will say is that there are a large amount of Gmen Across the country who are not up to it !!and they shoud watch their backs rather than those who work real hard! Time for change is here and we all have to club together with Pitch Care and form a new up to date organisation to replace the IOG as they havent shown much drive to sort it all out. that pete is what is REAL fact not YOUR RUBBISH that one guy is better than another because he live somewhere different to YOU! Happy Thursday Pete

north south divide
I'm a gr4eenkeeper in the south and would desperately love to move down south west but the problem is the money I guess it's the same up north I have a wife and two kids and a huge mortgage had I carried on with the job I was doing before I came into the industry I would now be earning a fortune but I wouldnt be as happy, lets just get on with our jobs. Theres no divide just pressure on all of us
north south
I'm a groundsman in the north east and believe like mj, that majority of groundsmen work dammed hard.
It is very unfortunate that we in the north , in general are poorly paid.... I guess all we can do is to keep on trying to promote the industry as a profesional one to the powers that be and eventually wage scales will increase as a whole across the board.
I consider this wonderful profession were in to be a highly enjoyable and really we should all be pulling together and complimenting each other as opposed to having a "under the belt" dig at individuals...... good luck to each and every one.

Must go noo I'm gannin to tek me whippet oot for a wak doon thur road
