I do, how much?

5 Apr 2011 by barry glynn

Yes. I watered mine on Monday and was glad it rained today.

What do I do? I just cut the grass.

autoroller.bmp 5 Apr 2011 by pacman75cricket

Same Barry, glad i watered mine yesterday too

telegramme boy 2.JPG 5 Apr 2011 by Chris Thornton

Absolutely NOT.

I have spent 4 hrs today pumping water of the outfield. There are supposed to be two friendlies this weekend and the ro-ro covers have been over for 8 days now yet the surface underneath is sodden. Hope to do some P S R this Friday as we are due some fine days!!!
Still the feed has been washed in and all looks green and verdant. Just need some dryness, PLEASE

Chris

Rain on and off for a week - some steady, some very heavy. Perfect on Sunday for the worm treatment (had to do it again following early treatment that wore off, doh)

Have to choose between rolling tomorrow night in perfect conditions or watch the blue v red game. Tough call - especially as SWMBO is currently v cross about time spent away on business and then up at ground.....

Starting to worry now Sip

6 Apr 2011 by eddyinfreehold

Chris. We've had well over an inch of rain since Sunday and the big tides haven't helped. I couldn't contemplate putting a game on for at least a week at present. Barley Cop Lane had standing water, let alone the field.

telegramme boy 2.JPG 6 Apr 2011 by Chris Thornton

Eddie. Going in today just to do a bit of tinkring with two machines. I dont think I could get the outfield cut this side of Monday!!
What a ballache this climate is!!

Had a request from a player if they could have some sort of "wicket" on the edge on Friday evening. I wish!!!????

Just received 80 bags of fertiliser and cant put it down as no rain forecast. Ian

Can you just is the longest sentence in the world !!!!!!!

6 Apr 2011 by jlawrence

I had no rain at all forecast yesterday, shame no one bothered to tell the clouds.
Supposedly drying up a bit from today so at least I might be able to get the covers out to the square to give me a chance of getting tracks out for next weekend.

Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

6 Apr 2011 by eddyinfreehold

If anyone wants water they are welcome to collect it from the Lancaster and Morecambe area. Going by the rivers it looks like the Lakes have had even more.

6 Apr 2011 by Grassman2011

No rain forcast before next Tuesday at the moment, forget the covers JL, you need to get rolling dont you? First games next weekend, bound to start raining by next Thursday Friday. Will probably for get to stop.

6 Apr 2011 by jlawrence

Rolling's just about done - just got a couple more passes to do on the main square and perhaps 3 or 4 on the other.
Metcheck is showing rain from the 16th onwards for me - just about typical.

Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

Rain is due next week just as cricket starts and it won't stop. Now I am even more worried if you are in the hands of B Pace, thought he had been marooned on the isle of man......................!!

sa_rd33.gif 6 Apr 2011 by sipho

Not to worry Vic - we will keep barry on his toes! As Pitchcare Peter says I can look him straight in the eyes! :)

Had to water the square today - cracks you could get your pinkie down!

This is Aberdeen...what's going on??

I know no boundaries.

telegramme boy 2.JPG 7 Apr 2011 by Chris Thornton

Water!!!!!!!!! I got the majority of the deep ponds off on Tues afternoon and when I went in on Wed am it was just as bad!! When I spoke to a local Golf Club green keeper he said his rain gauge showed one and a half inches in two nights!!!
Outfield is sodden and full off Daisies and the square has not had a roller near it. Happy Woodhill Lane days.

Things are looking up though with a dry couple of days to come then "Metcheck" suggests there might be more rain and snow early next week.

P S R Friday. Square looks well though. What a pity its only the surface. They say beauty is only skin deep, well that certainly applies to my " pebble dashed"square!!

I am so fed up that I am going to back "What A Friend" in the National on Saturday.. Get on!!!

Having maintained cricket squares in the North of England for over 20 years I can rely on a few things ...

Someone will say " We need to practice on the square, it will help our game on Saturdays " ... No, you need to learn how to bat.

Someone will say " Why are we playing on the same pitch for 3 wickets running? " ... There are 22 weeks in the season and you have 7 pitches ... do the maths.

and ...

... it will rain ... a lot.

But your not bitter eh?

Our roller has been out of action for 10 days, the rain last week made the square perfect for rolling. Our first game is still a month away. Am I waisting my time pre-season rolling now when the square is a little dry or shall I wait for the rain next week

8 Apr 2011 by jontaylor

Roll when you can.
If you've got decent grass cover, last weeks moisture will still be there.

Had to water our square today in the North East of Scotland! Can't believe how dry it's been here, and unthinkable to see the surface cracking this early in the year.

Saltire.gif 9 Apr 2011 by mario

Ran the Variseeder over my square eight days ago and the new plants are up without the use of germination sheets either. Remarkable for this time of year in Aberdeen!

Watered yesterday and will be doing it again tomorrow.

The pitch being prepared is under the covers to stop it drying too quickly. This is a strange phenomenom up here!!

I know no boundaries.
