Moss in outfield

We have a cricket outfield which has some bad areas of moss infestation. There is some grass in the moss areas though.

We have sprayed of some of the worst areas with sulphate of iron at the weekend.

We are going to lightly scarify the infected areas in about a weeks time picking up the moss and then add abit of grass seed and fertiliser. Is this the correct thing to do?

Advice would be welcome.

moss

Yes matt, you need to kill of the moss first, give it time to dieback, then you need to remove it . By raking it out either by hand or machine, trying not to create to much disturbance to the playing surface.

You will then need to top dress with new soil material to resore levels, you can mix in some grass seed and pre-seeding fertiliser with the top dressing. this will ensure the seed has contact with the soil and some feed to stimulate growth when it has germinated. You may also need to irrigate these repaired areas.
