Italian Rye Grass

I have an outbreak of Italian Rye Grass in 1000 m2 of fine amenity lawns, thanks to overseeding with contaminated grass seed. The supplier says it will disappear with normal regular mowing, does anyone have an opinion on whether or not this is the case and if not how I can get rid of it??

sorry I cant help any more than saying you should get rid of supplier and find someone who doent talk S--T ! I dont know the grass that well but grasses within a sward are hard to get rid of they are not like weeds.

Iti Rye

I certainly would not be to impressed with the supplier but the Italian Rye will not enjoy lower mowing heights (below about 7mm), although I realise that you may not mow this low normally. Also avoid over use of nitrogen fertiliser since ryegrasses are all relatively hungry when in the sportsturf situation.
