spring fertilising of a relayed square
The square was relayed last autumn. I'm ready to fertilise the square. Should i use the normal high nitrogen spring and summer fertiliser or go for a more balanced say 7-7-7? The square in question only as 7 wickets and only 4 are used by the 1st 11 of the notts premier league. Grass growth is a big concern of mine under theses circumstances

I would use a lower nitrogen level fert as you suggested but would feed the square twice with a gap of 6 to 8 weeks. this will give a more balanced feed rather than a quick short boost.

David a slight side track but what did it cost you approximately to relay your table and did this include any drainage work?

relayed square
simon. I was the groundsman untill 1999 the packed it in.( being only a part time post). This year they asked me back probally to take care of the new square. As to cost i'm not 100% certain a figure of £6000 was what i heard. this was just for relaying the square. as i siad in the previous message that was for 7 full width wickets. The drainage is pretty good normally, but was relayed for bad panning in certain areas plus a high build up of the ends over the years. Up to now the square looks well, but of course we dont know how it's going to play this season. i will post a mess age after the first few games that will tell you.

Thanks for the reply Pete. I was 95% convinced the low level nitro would be better. Not being a full time grounds person i wasnt quite sure and on grass that was sowed last sept i thought the root growth was better than a quick fix to make it look good from the pavillion. thanks again for your advice and is much apreciated.

I assume that at a cost of £6000 the suare has been korro'd and not fully re-laid?
Simon, to fully re-lay one wicket (with all new materials) will cost, depending on methods of construction, at least 3-4K and that is if you do the work yourself. To get contractors in you are probably looking at doubling that.
