The groundsman is often portrayed as a grumpy, miserable old so and so who doesn't like people on his grass.
And so, for once a little sign of the good natured individual.
At the Uxbridge cricket groundsmans seminar in February, I mentioned that the groundstaff at our club do a lot of work in support of Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
To my utter amazement, yesterday, I received an email from one of the Pitchcare regulars informing me that following that event, he returned to his place of work, spoke with a few admin staff and they have just made a donation of £10,000 to the charity.
This all goes to show the great appeal of the Pitchcare site as we have only met on one occasion, despite talking via PC many times. This also is not an isolated incident as another poster has donated money, gained from jobs in the past.
Breast cancer will affect 1 in 8 women in this Country and a few men, it is the charity Middlesex CCC are connected to also it is very close to my heart. Every patient is different of course but I have watched a lady lose two years (so far) of her life, whilst only in her mid 40's. Stripped of hair, energy, dignity, confidence and to add to the mental torture, relieved of her work.
I will not embarrass the individual on here but would be delighted if he were to consider posting a little about how the money was raised by his work.
Yes sometimes we get a little stressed because of the pressure of this work, sometimes we can be difficult to work with but when times get difficult we are willing to pull together and help out. Perhaps the humble groundsman is not such a bad chap after all.

Cheers.

Thats really heart warming Vic. There are plenty of good people around, they just
don't make as much noise as the idiots.

What do I do? I just cut the grass.

That's fantastic Vic. Amazing.
Congratulations to you, your team and the mystery donator.
Peter

Of course the grass looks good. The sun is shining.

Handbags Vic... lots of posh handbags.

To be fair, it wasn't all me - it was, in the main, the sterling effort of some friends and colleagues. I simply put forth the request that the proceeds from the next charitable event that we run be donated to such a worthy cause.

Okay, I may have had to 'model' one or two of the said handbags in an effort to raise the bids (thought I looked quite fetching actually, and they are vey handy too), and do a little bit of running around, but that was all. When the quality of life is at stake for so many affected sufferers, I think that it is only right to do your bit, and if necessary, break free from the constraints of opinion, and make a prat out of yourself, in the respect of the greater good.

I would emplore anyone and everyone to do the same - you never know, you might actually enjoy parading yourself around with a selection of ladies handbags - even if you don't, you will gain immense satisfaction from knowing that your efforts might just restore a bit of happiness to anothers life.

Now if ya'll don't mind, i'm going to dip out of this one now, being suitably embarrassed and all that!

Mike

Edit: And for info... i'm proud of being a grumpy, miserable old so and so!!
