Message Board - Natural Turf: Repairs to sheet covers
27 May 2011 by eddyinfreehold
We have two excellent heavyweight sheets 90' x 16' made by Stuart canvas products. One has been gnawed by mice over a fold producing about 10 holes in a line. The other was damaged by a clown last Saturday spiking over it in his haste to grab a handle. There's no time to take them for repair at the moment and they're in use as much as feasible bearing in mind they're porous. I need to effect some quick temporary repairs. Any suggestions? I was thinking a patch with evo stick or for spike holes a blob of silicone to make a sort of rivet through the hole. All advice welcomed.

Is there a boat chandlery nearby - they usually stock sail repair kits, which is your best hope of a quick fix.
If you don't have one nearby, try online.

Heat gun and pieces of old (and clean) sheet - Can be 'welded' on. Useful to have a wallpaper (hard) roller to hand and a board to go underneath.
1) cut patch
2) Place board under repair
3) Use heat gun to CAREULLY heat around repair and patch
4) Apply patch and use roller to press together
5) Takes a bit of practice.
Small holes can be superglued.

That's excellent everybody, thank you. Heat gun I have, board I have, hard wallpaper roller I have. Solvent cleaner I have. Spare bits of cover I DON'T have. Doh, I'll scratt around next week and find some. Seriously, many thanks everyone, nothing worse than an unexpected wet circle on a dry covered deck. Spoils all the hard work..
By the way Mario, what news of the Adidas F50 boots North of the Border as the rain continues? We can't buy The Scotsman here unless we drive to Blackpool, which I only do in winter for hockey.

All quiet on the boot front ..... at the moment!!
As has already been stated, the wearer of the aforementioned boots, Sandy Strang, has a column in the Scotsman and has a tendency towards, shall we say, "the controversial angle on things"!
Check out the home page on the Cricket Scotland website www.cricketscotland.com
At the bottom of the page are stories relating to cricket published by the Scotsman. Some of them by Sandy.
I know no boundaries.

Thanks Mario. I'm not sure I could stomach Mr Strang on the field, I've met his type before I think, but by God his prose is good. Superbly researched, depth of knowledge unquestioned, pithy sentences fired as if from a machine gun. If only every journalist wrote like that. The trouble is his subject is not just cricket, not even scottish cricket, but scottish wicketkeeping cricket which must surely be the ultimate in 'Mastermind Specialist Subjects.' Wonderful.

Not a pretty option but one that works if you have no soare pieces of cover to use. Get some pond lining from your local large garden centre suppliers and some of the glue they sell for it. Bit of glue to both surfaces, leave for five minutes and press together.
As for Mr. Strang, don't care if his writing is Shakespearean in quality, the man is is a pr1ck.
What do I do? I just cut the grass.

Thanks Barry another option. Right, off to the ground to find out whether my holy cover is still where it was put last night. Full waterproofs required. Hmm.
