Message Board - Machinery: Highhway 213

Gents, we are experiencing problems with our Highway 213 gang mower. It cuts out when we are using it. We have changed the fuel filter and battery. After it has stood for a while, it starts. Can anyone give us an idea of what may be the cause.
Also the we cannot push it back because the hydraulic release seems to have stopped working

Sounds like fuel - if it starts and runs, but as soon as you ask it to do some work it cuts out...
Check the fuel tank for debris - sometimes blowing back with compressed air (gently and with all the correct PPE) down the fuel pipe from the fliter back into the fuel tank can clear blockages or partial blockages. You may need to consider emptying and cleaning the tank if it has evidence of much debris.

Overheating?

Could it be a bad seat switch? (the switch under the seat thats supposed to cut the engine if you fall off while mowing)?

Thats what was making our ride on cut out.

Overheating was my first thought. That or fuel starvation.

I don't know if this mower has one but is there a fuel shut off tap screwed into the fuel tank. If so it could have a small filter on the end that sits inside the tank. This can get partially blocked and give the results you describe.

When your mower stops does it just cut out or does it 'cough and splutter' first?

It cuts out. I am told that on saturady we drow it slowly and managed to cut our outfield. Hence, it would see that when we use at full throttle it cuts out.

Sounds like fuel starvation then.

any ideas on what is the required action?

I'm of the opinion that, if it just cuts out 'dead', the problem is likely to be electrical.

Could be a short. Something 'making and breaking' due to heat expansion.

With you on that Aladdin, being able to run it slowly seems strange though. it's hit and miss without having a fiddle with it Majid. Try running it without a fuel cap @half a tank of fuel. Sad as I am just looked at a parts list online and saw you have a fuel pump fitted somewhere close to the fuel tank, I would check this is working from your symptoms, have replaced a few of these. Wouldn't do any harm bypassing the seat switch either, RWPs got the idea...simple things first I guess, and they can be a pain sometimes!

Just spotted the other post.

If it continues to run at low revs but cuts out at full throttle the that would suggest fuel starvation. As Grassman points out.

We had to call in "Ron" from EW Allen's. He fixed it for us. The problem appears to have been the level of the cutting rollers and the hydraulic system setting. Not sure what exactly, but will find out. Thanks for all your help ...many thanks
