Best speak to the person that closed it, but I suspect that 'commercial interests' will be cited as the reason for closing that thread.
Shame really...

Is the correct reason
Is it Dave?

lol, yes Ian, hope you're keeping well.
Always well Dave, always. And I hope you are keeping well.
It annoys me that these comercial enterprises are not able to be just that...... Enterprising, but then that costs money.
Puts me in mind of vultures..... waiting or seeing for an opportunity for easy pickings!
It am almost tempted to delete Pitchcare from my favorites menu!
But then its not their fault!

Ken, Ian et al,
It's a simple equation
Commercial free for all = no Pitchcare
We endeavour to be as fair as possible

Interesting that you re-instated this thread, Dave. I would like to sound off a bit, if I may.
I got the 'commercial feel' for the thread in question towards the end of it. A thinly veiled marketing ploy from the outset perhaps... maybe... who knows?
I do get concerned with the 'commercial undercurrent' on here from time to time. I have said it before, and i'll say it again... some things are not always as they seem. This isn't the fault of PC, but some posters can't seem to resist using the message board as a tool to gain business, either on the main board, or via PM... I would actually go as far to agree with Ken, where he suggests that there are vultures about, looking for easy pickings - I know, I had a few on my case when I first started posting on this message board, using very underhanded tactics to gain business. I still get it today, but i'm a bit more aware of it now, so I don't really entertain such nonsense.
Again, you can't blame PC for the service that they provide, or when they have to step in to protect the integrity of the service that they provide - but that doesn't stop some people abusing the privilege of being able to post here.
I'm fortunate in that I have met many good people through this site, but have also met some whom I don't hold in such high esteem. Only recently, I have had reps from a manufacturer come into my shed, unannounced, trying to sell me things, whilst having background information on me from this site... not a practice that I like, and makes me question whether I should post under my name, and make my employers name aware to the wider audience... not only that, they discredit a friend of mine, all in a selfish effort to gain my business... they will not set foot in my shed again any time soon.
My advice to anyone - be very careful who you trust.
PC - what I would say is this - I actually think that you are to lenient.... it's one thing to delete posts... its another to ban 'repeat offenders'... just my thoughts...
Mike
Seems to be a personal aspect here, ie as soon as a particular person comes on he is immediately jumped on. A person who has helped many greenkeeers and groundsmen in sticky legal circumstances, all without charge, and that seems to annoy some people for some reason.
Aside from that, it was an excellent debate on a very current subject. Hopefully, it will spur some on to find out more.

I in the past have been a little too keen on a couple of posts and overstepped the line between offering thoughts or information and drifted into the dirty world of 'business' and have had my legs slapped appropriately by Dave, John et al...
And I fully accept that as I do believ that the greater good of this site is for the learning by all of new ways or direction by the basic method of someone sitting here and typing what you think or know and passing on that experience..
I will not deny that I have possibly gained a couple of jobs through it but more importantly I have learnt much, hopefully helped a couple of people out, porobably annoyed a few too and I like to think gained a few good 'friends' too...
So if the Forum is to be commercially 'clean' then so be it, we can all police it, it is simple.
Andy, as an observation I do not think it was personal, Ian did start plugging his workshops, free or not.........
BUT let us make sure that it is a free forum without one rule for some and not for others...............
And if people are PM ing you to death and you don't like it whinge to Dave and he can slap them about too.
Plastic.... it's The End I tell you... THE END!!!!
Mike, they can discredit your friend, but you know the truth because you are aware of the bigger picture. It is those less aware I worry for, as I was taken in by one individual from this site, but you soon learn to see what is really going on.

Vic - I got lucky with one... not before being taken in though... I parted with no money thankfully.
I too have serious concerns for those who aren't as aware of some goings on as others.

Well I'm interested in any views on improving the message boards.
With regards the PM's, I believe that these are used nearly twice as much as normal posting.
We could stop that facility, but again I believe they are mostly used for the right reasons.
FAO Andy Turnbull, I (we) don't single out anyone particularly, unless rules are broken. If one refrains from personal gain then there's no issue.
There are at least 2 dozen people currently under moderation for using the msg boards for advertising. The man you speak about isn't.

I rarely post on here unless there is a good topic of debate.
Shame you pulled the plug on this one Dave, but maybe you should set some parameters up so PC could fine these people who deserve to in 'prison'!!!!!
Why not find these perpetrators and fine them for misuse and use the money for the good of the poor just like Robin Hood did......YES US
One association, one voice and when the voices are heard panic sets in for the good of the business........
