like 95% of the worlds population believe in a god, 95% of people think 5.5m blocks look good. The 5% who are not deluded myself included know that single stripes always were and will be the best ever fp pattern. Also it takes skill and effort to cut single stripes which would explain why more 'grondsmen' dont cut them.

Turfinator,
Totally agree about the skill but it also looks rubbish when done badley,it also sends me dizzy when watching the game. I thought it was done so the linesman could see how slow our defence is !!

Rest assured, Adam. There will be a change to the stripes, but purely to make my mark!

My cricket came to an abrupt halt 3 months ago when baby Thomas arrived! I'm trying to keep the golf going, but that may be a problem now too.... Shouldn't complain really.

Portman Road pitch always looks good, especially when covered by snow as against Leicester last winter. :)
Best wishes to the new staff, IMHO single stripes are very 50s, and fancy patterns are very 80s, something around 2.5metre blocks both ways looks good for this day and age.
On a different matter, if all clubs were to use 2.5 yard blocks then referees would be able to measure the 10 yards for free kicks more accurately.

Completely agree with it being a skill- i would know i used to work for Alan, and as "out-dated" as it may be, at leasts its got a unique look. Most groundsman have gone with the trend of the big stripes and all the pitches look fairly similar now. Ben, my advice, just drop the diagonals- they blur the pattern too much!
