Surface Water problems
We're having problems with surface water standing on the cricket pitch. Other than having very expensive ground work carried out does anyone have any ideas on the best method of removing standing water.

water removal
Is there surface water all over the field or just in a localised spot?
There was an article on here about drainage grants from the ECB, speak to your local county advisor about obtaining a grant.
Alternatively for one problem area, try a pump and hose, these can be hired or bought.

Hover dry
On one golf course I worked on we had a cross between a hover mower and a pump, called a hover-dry which worked really well. You could try searching for it on the www.
Also, you can get those big foam rollers that collect water (can't remember their name), but it all depends on how much water is collecting on your pitch. If it is really bad, then drainage and/or aeration of some sort is a probable solution, as the remidies I have suggested (above) only takle the symptom, and not the cause.

The Bowdry
You can purchase the Bowdry from this site for around £450+VAT. This machine clears surface water very quickly and is used by many of the top professional football and cricket clubs.
Look in special offers.

Water problems on the cricket pitch
It may be that you have some hollows that require correction. If you do not get the surface water away, after prolonged ponding, the turf will rot and soil become anerobic. How about a Robin Dagger or deep sub air aeration -contact Terrain Aeration - their details are on this site. Failing this, some careful deep aeration in the closed period. Do not perform too late into the spring of 2005.
