Flickx pitches
Does anyone use a Flickx pitch for practice or Junior games? I"m toying with the idea of laying one at the edge of the square and seeding and top dressing through it. Has anyone tried this?

Flicx
Actually, we've got one of these pitches and have found it useful. However I couldn't recommend laying one at the edge of your square, they're use is more for people who don't have a prepared square. Ours is on the village playing field, where a primary school cricket club use it, as well as recreational users. I can't see an advantage of having one in a fixed position if you have proper facilities. There are Flicx Pitches with coaching marks on, these are obviosly useful but in a net situation. The manufacture will tell you that they can be left in a fixed position for the grass to grow through the cells, and then you just mow as normal. Don't forget that these wickets were designed for use in South African townships, where there wouldn't be any grass, so the benefits to those who have even typical facilities here would be less obvious. On the whole if you have a proper square you aren't likely to want a permanently located Flicx. You could however transport it into schools for coaching clinics or such, i think the intention was to use them to introduce cricket to very new players. Ours was awarded under the ECB scheme, I'm not sure that I would recommend anyone to buy one, especially if (say) you could get a Lords Taverners Grant towards an artificial pitch or other funding.
