Message Board - Football: Pitch Irrigation

16 Oct 2011 by niall gibb

It has been very dry down here in the South coast and no rain forecast for this week. Looks like i may have to irrigate pitch. As it is very dry down the soil profile. I previously worked in Glasgow where we got plenty of rainfall, so this is a strange season for me. Watering in October!??

Try not to use a calendar as a specific benchmark - if the pitch needs water, it needs water. The weather is ever changing, and we need to adapt to the changing weather patterns. Throw in the different weather patterns between Scotland and Sussex, and you are left with one answer - forget what month it is, and give the pitch what your eyes tell you that it needs.

We have been watering our first team rugby pitch for a month and may half to start again next week for when half term finishes. Hopefully though i will get the go ahead for irrigation on our main fields. Ian

We have had our Javelin going in October and thats in the North East.

I get the feeling the seasons are shifting so I would agree with Mike if it needs water then water it.

Soon be snowing !
