Message Board - Cricket: Intermediate course.

DSCN0073 9 Dec 2011 by Vic Demain

Just to lighten the heavy going of the board at the moment. I attended an ECB/IOG intermediate course yesterday and found it most rewarding. All credit to the 2 Ian's, the Middlesex GA for putting it on, Harrow CC for a top lunch and the other delegates for their company.
Would recommend this course to everyone.
Seasons greetings
Vic.

I think that is the course where you learn the most Vic.

hi vic what does the course entail mate?

once a ransomes man allways a ransomes man !!!!

Hi Karl, the course was an introduction into the theory of turf culture or soil science.
Covering soils, nutrients, seeds and touching on a number of other issues.
Well delivered, easy to follow, good course material.
As it's the only course I've done, I would have to agree with Grassman (as of course I always would).

Did intermediate + advanced 2 years ago + thoroughly enjoyed both.

Definately worth doing

Did the basic spring, summer, autumn pitch prep, renovations last year with mel pooley. 2 of the most enjoyable informative days ive had. 40 years of experience, and a life story with some great name dropping. Also helped having an ex county wicket keeper on the course.

Did mine when it was the old level 2.
By far one of the best courses I've been on.
I prefer the 2 days rather than splitting it into 2x 1 day though - you learn as much chatting in the evening as you do during the day.
The added value of networking isn't to be under-estimated.

Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

I agree with you j lawrence i did the old level 3 in its first year and we had both the great Harry Brind and his replacement Chris wood at the course very interesting discussions were had. Ian

Can you just is the longest sentence in the world !!!!!!!

Very keen to do this course also as iv'e done both foundation courses years ago, but the IOG training are showing as none available. I did put myself done a while back to do it but the course got cancelled. Any ideas as to when the next course is available or of any ecb ones that are readily available for keen groundsmen?

There's normally at least one of the intermediate courses being run during the year.
IIRC, dates aren't 'normally' out for them until the new year.
If it's not showing online, just give them a ring.

As for the level 3. I've been trying to get on this course for a few years - it actually ran in 2010 (I believe) which was typical as it was on the same date as part of my coaching course so no way I could do it. Cancelled last year, but then a call from the office suggested I just do the last 2 days of the 5 day course. Bingo - at last I've managed to get the level 3 equivalent done.

Of course there's no bounce, bend your back and put some bloody effort in.

JL Like you been trying for last three or four years to do IOG level 3,( or whatever they now call it) cancelled every year, three days prior to course, accomodation booked etc,I even had a second course booked two years ago, a two day management course, that got cancelled a week before, given up now, repeated phone calls to IOG, badgering area IOG contact, complaining looking for alternatives, was never given the option you got. I know there may be other options company wise but always thought IOG wasTHE way to go , all a bit dissapointing. Well done on getting yours though.

Guys,

We run basic courses on all sports maintenance and will be looking to take on higher level courses from 2012, all accredited by LANTRA. We also run a very succesful 2 day management course.
To my knowledge we have only had to cancel 3 courses in 4 years due to lack of numbers. This is a rate of less than 2%.

Please have a look at our training pages in the top bar and if there are specific courses that you can't see, but would like, then please let chris@pitchcare.com know.
