Do you get paid if you cant get in to work?
What if you try, but it is their road not the main road that is unpassable?

Bit of a woolly one that Echo.

First port of call is to see if there is an express term in your contract of employment that covers this eventuality - if there is, then the terms should be abided by.

Failing the above, technically you are not entitled to be paid if you are unable to attend, particularly if the work place is open and other employees are in work, though circumstances are different for employees coming from different areas.

Most employers should take a sympathetic view on this, but my advice would be to seek clarification from your employer.

Fair point Mike.
I bet we dont have a Bad weather policy, and basically it is not open unless I get there, it is a golf course which will be closed to play but the clubhose will be open, yet the road to it is not passable by car and is nearly a mile long, I can get to the main entrance but I wouldn't leave my car on the main road and walk in, and then to do what.

Why not ask your employer for clarification on the bad weather policy? No need to make anything more out of it than is necessary. If the clubhouse is open, technically the place of employment is open as judgement is generally not based on different departments i.e. grounds dept.

We don't have a bad weather policy - few do, but our employer keeps in constant communication with us, which is usually all that is necessary.

I went in all through last winter, and am on standby for when we get the snow. getting in isn't a problem as I have a dirty great 4x4 - many other employees have been unable to. which is fine, you just do what you can. With regards to doing what, there is always work to do, wherever you work. If you can't get out on the course, can you clear the 'unpassable' road, car parks, footpaths etc - this is what I do. If that is not a necessity, machinery servicing, paperwork - you can offer to do your paperwork at home so you still get paid by your employer etc.

It is a difficult time for everyone, but it is also a time to rally around and do what you can, rather than dwell on what you can't. Discuss it over a cuppa with your employer, and go from there - if nothing else, they will be impressed with your proactive approach.

Cheers Mike,
Funny enough I have just contacted the sec and we are going in road clearing but a bit later than normal start, being picked up by a pick up truck not a car, useful.
I am owed hours so no problem there, just my workmate who may lose out, but he can make them up later.

Perfect Echo... brilliant.

When I used to work on a golf course, and the course was closed due to snow, I would walk to work (not far luckily), and do things around the clubhouse - painting the ladies changing rooms was a common one as it was a time when none of the women were about, helped give the kitchens a proper deep clean, painted tee box markers and marker posts. I always found it a brilliant opportunity to get things done that we never usually had the chance to do. I know it's not all what you would classify as greeneepers jobs, but sometimes we all just have to muck in and do what needs to be done.

Thanks Mike, appreciate your input.
Realised there are some benches need oiling etc.
Just spoke to workmate who is going to make an effort to come in, but not too early, I've told him to just be sensible.
