Welcome to the August Newsletter
The commitment of people in this industry never fails to amaze me.
On Wednesday this week, together with the ECB and the Yorkshire Cricket Board, we held a seminar at Headingley for Groundsmen whose facilities have been damaged by this summer's horrendous floods. About 50 representatives from various clubs around the region came along to discuss their problems and to get advice from a host of respected professionals.
Some of the grounds were totally decimated, but the club representatives all had the same determination to get them back into shape as quickly as possible. It was heartening to see such positive attitudes, and I am sure they will achieve their aims.
We will publish a full report of the seminar on our website. Our thanks to the ECB, Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Yorkshire Cricket Board and Leeds Metropolitan University for their support of the event.
Johnson's Seeds
Don’t let the green outlook fool you into missing out on autumn overseeding!
Following the wet summer many people may be tempted to miss out on essential over seeding as the wet summer has encouraged poa annua to flourish. But don’t let this temporary green oasis fool you. This true annual form of poa is shallow rooted and short lived, with very poor wear tolerance, often choosing to die out again in critical periods of peak use. Regular over seeding improves the quality and disease resistance of your sports surface
The Johnson's seed range has been designed to provide the very best playing surface, and thanks to the unique “Turfguard” seed treatment, Johnson's seed is guaranteed to provide faster, more consistent establishment and develop more root mass than any other seed range. Johnson's are also holding their spring prices for autumn 2007 despite the general market rise, making Johnson's seed exceptional value for money.
Cricket clubs about to start autumn renovation should look no further than the new “Johnson's Ryemaster” a proven combination of 3 market leading cultivars. Breeders invest millions of pounds each year to constantly increase the quality of new turf grass cultivars, improving performance, and disease resistance. Whilst lower rated cultivars often come at a slightly cheaper price the reduced long term performance of the turf often make them poor value especially given the small quantity of seed required on your average square.
The Johnson's technical team are always available to provide free advice on any aspect of mixture selection or management. Tel 01386 791102 Fax: 01386 792715 Email: amenity@dlf.co.uk
