Hello .

As we approach our 2nd birthday, we intend to celebrate with a brand new look to the Pitchcare site. The administrative side was completed earlier this month and all members should now be experiencing much quicker download times. Our design team have been given the challenge of producing the best looking and the most user friendly site on the world wide web. Quite a challenge, but why set them any other target?

The deadline is one minute past midnight on 1st September, and the clock’s ticking!

Peter Harper, Head Groundsman, Cannock Cricket and Hockey Club Main stories – Sheep herding at Port Vale; the work of Blackpool cricket club’s Groundsman is put under the spotlight by Sky TV; mining to mowing at Cannock hockey and cricket club, the latest from Steve Rouse as he hosts the Test match; and perhaps the perfect template of how to run a local football club at Stone Dominoes. Read them all and more, here.
Edgbaston Cricket Club Wicket Artificial Turf – the issue keeps on surfacing (pun intended). Support in Sport have just received UEFA approval to their system which is to be installed at 5 stadia across Europe.
Port Vale Football Club Pitch The IOG and the way ahead - Much comment in the Message Board about the current workings of the institute, and some interesting suggestions on where it should go.
Derek Trafford and Staff, Head Groundsman, Stone Dominoes Saltex – All the latest from the companies exhibiting at Windsor. Up to the minute news on what is worth seeing if you are visiting the show, and what’s available if you can’t get there.

Excellent web site. Have spent hours looking through and picked up some excellent advice. Can't wait until cricket season begins here in NZ. - Member

Who are you going to call? When Greenwich Council needed part of the Millennium Dome turfed for the ‘Respect Festival’, their first point of call was the internet and Pitchcare. Problem solved, with Inturf doing the business not only to the satisfaction of Greenwich Council but also the Mayor of London who enjoyed a cuppa sitting on the turf.

Greenwich Respect Festival, Millenium Dome

Who are you going to call? Prior to Wimbledon the advertising agency for Robinsons Barley Water wanted a giant sign with ‘Best of British’, and an imprint of Tim Henman’s head, marked out on school playing field in London. Again, the internet and a call to Pitchcare. Problem solved, with the Fleet Linemarker team working well into the night to produce the goods.

Best of British, Tim Henman

I have only just discovered the world of Pitchcare and from what I have seen it is THE place for advice!! - Member

Cricket Groundsman of the Year Award

We are proud to announce that SISIS, Ransomes Jacobsen and Groundsman Industries are among the prestigious companies to sign up as sponsors to the inaugural Cricket Groundsman of the Year Awards 2003. Get more info here.

In conjunction with Cricket World, the awards are designed to raise the interest and awareness of Groundsmanship and to encourage and promote Groundsmen in cricket at all levels.

Nominations can be for the ground or Groundsman and can relate to the general upkeep of the ground, the longevity of service, or an 'against all odds' achievement. So get your entries in and bring some recognition to grass roots sport and the people who work tirelessly to get the matches on. Entries should be sent to CGC@pitchcare.com.
