More than likely at some stage we will see cold temperatures return to our shores but living on an Island is very difficult to give a long term forecast but looking at the present and very near weather patterns, milder weather is pushing up from the African continent bringing mild and wet weather.

It is essential to keep any disease activity to a minimum, in past years it has shown that greenkeepers who have not controlled their disease activity (and this may not be visual to the eye), if is not treated the fusarium can manifest under the layer of snow covering and once the snow has thawed you could end up with some very heavy damaged turf.

Trials using Medallion TL fungicide at Birch Grove Golf Club in Essex were carried out this year. The results demonstrated the exceptional long-lasting disease control that it's possible to achieve with Medallion TL, even under very high disease pressure and the testing conditions posed by prolonged snow cover. After a spray programme through late autumn and early winter, Medallion TL was still giving over 99.5% disease control when assessed at the end of February - more than 100 days after the final application. Over 25% of the untreated turf area was affected by Fusarium, with serious implications for playing quality and recovery.
