Dear Pitchcare Member October 2002
This autumn has been exceptionally dry, allowing most of us to successfully complete summer sport renovations. The dry weather has enabled new seed to germinate and establish before the frosts return with the onset of winter and the incidence of disease has been minimised. This is in sharp contrast to the earlier part of the year, where soil temperatures seemed to take an age to warm up.

If you've not logged on recently there's been, and continue to be so many changes to the website, and so many new members are joining all the time. Pop in and say 'Hi.'

Trade Union Support
Groundsmen and Greenkeepers are sadly lacking in support when it comes to workplace disputes. Who do you to turn to when there is a problem? Where do you go for legal advice and representation? Do you know your working rights? Pitchcare have been in contact with Britain`s biggest union, the T&G, and we are more than happy to endorse the services they provide. For about the cost of a pint (£1.95 per week) members will have access to a full range of services and benefits - and the comfort of knowing you are not alone when things go wrong. Call us on 01902 824392 and we will send you details.

Who's Who? Section
We launched a brand new section to the website in September called Who's Who. We thought that it would be a good idea if members could upload info of themselves, with the option of contact details and photos. Most of us work in isolation, not knowing who our close neighbours are. With the introduction of this section, we hope to bring members together to swap ideas, machines and even band together to group purchase. Our members are already adding their profiles to join the Pitchcare think tank-so why don't you!

Scotts News / Ransomes Jacobsen Directory
You can now read the latest from Scotts in our recently formed Scotts News pages. The Scotts company are the only amenity company with a research and development department, and are leading the way to meet new legislation empowered by the EU.
Click on the Scotts News banner in our editorial section to read articles and current information on the Scotts company and their products.

Important News: Textron, Golf, Turf & Speciality Products has changed its trading title to reflect the heritage inherent in its two major brands. Effective from September 3 2002, the Ipswich-based company has reverted to its registered trading name of Ransomes Jacobsen Limited.

Selina Flynn, Communications and Promotions Manager said "The decision was made to fall in with the strategy being undertaken by Textron Inc., Ransomes Jacobsen Limited's parent company, who are changing the trading style of their subsidiaries on a global basis. Textron Inc has many market leading brands in its family and has decided to promote these brands by using them as part of their companies' trading names, if they do not do so already. Textron's aircraft division has always promoted 'Cessna - A Textron Company' and this has proved to be one of the most profitable businesses under the Textron umbrella. Ransomes is world renowned as the inventor of the lawnmower and is certainly now a major name in the municipal sector. On the other side of the Atlantic and now here in the UK and Europe, Jacobsen is a byword for quality of cut for all golf course applications. Furthermore, the choice of name change is even more important now that it has been confirmed that the company will continue to manufacture most of the Ransomes products at Ipswich."

In our directory we have the full range of Ransomes Jacobsen machines with photos, technical specifications and the opportunity to contact a local dealer for a demonstration.

Job Front
We post new jobs on every week, but we also have a large pool of Groundsmen and Greenkeepers looking for a change of scenery. All details of work available and work required are in the Job section on the site. Membership

As we send this newsletter out, our membership now sits at 2600 members; not too bad at all in 14 months. However, if we want to drive the industry forward, providing not only advice and share of knowledge but to lobby for better conditions, education and pay, the bigger the membership, the more strength we have to achieve this. Our industry deserves to be viewed as professional, so we are asking you to recommend Pitchcare to at least 1 of your industry colleagues. Click the here to send this newsletter to a friend.

Pitchcare was designed and is run by fellow groundsmen and greenkeepers for groundsmen and greenkeepers. Remember, Pitchcare is your site.
