Welcome to the October Newsletter

Dave Saltman
Earlier this summer I suggested that without a dry and warm autumn, winter sports surfaces would struggle to get through the next few months. Thankfully, the weather has been exactly that and (despite the numerous disease attacks that we have encountered at Wolves) the roots have gone in search of water. We are now far more confident of surviving the non-growth and recovery months.

One long range forecast that I've seen suggests that this winter will remain warm, but with far less rain than we had last year! However, what we could do with right now are a few cold and frosty nights to kill off the bugs.

In just two days time (31st October) we are holding a leaf blower/collection day with the generous help of James Mead and Rugby School. If you have a spare couple of hours, let us know by e-mail and pop along to see all the different companies machinery in operation. James says that he has more leaves than you can shake a stick at, so all of the equipment on show will be seen working hard in a real environment. Click through details are below in Hot Items.

Best wishes,
Dave Saltman

Weed Free

The autumn spraying season is well under way with our team busy servicing clients, attending to their worm and insect control requirements. Half Term holiday is traditionally a very busy two-week period for us.

This year, more clients are requesting a tank mixture of Carbendazim/Chlorpyrifos to control both Casting Worms and Leatherjackets. This approved tank mix not only saves an application charge but the added wetter in the insect control product really enhances the success of the Worm Cast treatment

It is still surprisingly mild so do not hesitate about catching up on your selective weed control applications before the first few frosts arrive. We have had a very busy selective weed control season as there has been more than one weed germination period as the summer has been wet, ideal for those weeds growing!
