2002 |
 |
 |
Saltex 2002 provided the usual new product
and machinery releases, variety of stands and
displays. This month we are highlighting some of
the new releases in our Industry section,
providing our own impartial views.
Saltex was also a time for presentations
and we were pleased to see the FA/IOG new awards
for football Groundsmen, with categories all the
way from Local Authority to the Premier League.
Full results are on the website. Hopefully some of
the other sporting bodies will now follow suit and
provide equivalent awards for their respective
sports. |

We are pleased to announce our signing of a
three year deal with Golf England as their
Category manager. This is an exciting time for
Pitchcare,
as we aim to provide some of the most competitive
rates available to Golf England member clubs,
offering services from supply of products and
machines to course maintenance and design. |
| Harley
Competition |
 |
 |
At Saltex we celebrated our first
birthday-Hooray. One year old and just short of
two thousand members
already! Our stand proved to be a bit of a head turner
with a Harley-Davidson Fat Boy on display.
Disappointingly, our competition failed to produce
a winner, but we did manage to raise over £300
for the Children`s Heart Link charity. Our sincere
thanks to everyone who entered and to Thames
Valley Harley-Davidson for lending us the monster
machine. |

Groundsmen
and Greenkeepers are sadly lacking in support when
it comes to workplace disputes. Who do you to turn
to when there is a problem? Where do you go for
legal advice and representation? Do you know your
working rights? Pitchcare have been in contact
with Britain`s biggest union, the T&G, and we
are more than happy to endorse the services they
provide. For about the cost of a pint (£1.95 per week) members will have access
to a full range of services and benefits - and the
comfort of knowing you are not alone when things
go wrong. Call us on 01902 824392 and we will send
you details. |

Cricket,
tennis, bowls and croquet are starting to bed down
for the winter - but there's a lot of work still
to be done. We will be talking to Groundsmen from
the local clubs and top venues about their end of

One
of our regular supporters and contributors, Keith
Kent of Man United, is moving on after 15 years
in the hot seat at Old Trafford. Looking to put
his feet up? Not likely! Keith has been appointed
Head Groundsman at the home of English rugby -
Twickenham. We wish him well, and look forward
to bringing you news on his work at this world
famous venue.
Keith
will also be hosting a free day seminar at Twickenham
Rugby Stadium on Thursday 3rd October 2002, places
will need to be booked in advance-full details
in the Industry section of our magazine. Also
SISIS are offering the opportunity to learn about
bowling green maintenance at three seperate seminars
on the 1st,2nd and 3rd of October-again places

| Who's
Who? |
 |
 |
We
will be uploading a brand new section to the
website shortly called Who's who. We thought that
it would be a good idea if members could upload
info of themselves, with the option of contact
details and photos. Most of us work in isolation,
not knowing who our close neighbours are. With the
introduction of this section, we hope to bring
members together to swap ideas, machines and even
band together to group purchase. Please let us
know your thoughts about this new section. |
| Questionnaire |
 |
 |
Yet
another reminder to members to return their
questionnaires to Dr Kate Entwistle at the Turf
Disease Centre. You will find the questionnaire in
our Industry section on the magazine and it will
take about five minutes to fill out-I know I've
completed one myself. Don't be lazy, Kate has
received about 40 responses so far, and I know
there are many of you who are in a position to
provide her with very useful information. If you manage a turfed area,
diseased or not, your assistance is important to
determining the scale of any problem. |
