| Welcome to our September Newsletter |
Well, we're currently enjoying our Indian summer, temperatures by me yesterday hit 27 degrees; the dry week should be perfect for helping everyone get their renovations finished and, if finished, the grass germinated. If the soil temperatures remain up, then you can give your turf a good boost and get it hardened up before the winter sets in.
The weather has been very much regional in recent weeks, but at least we can all enjoy the current high pressure sitting over us all. Shropshire, where we're based, has suffered one of the driest years on record, even after a good downpour last week of 12mm, the ground was like talcum powder when cultivated. Everyone wthout means to irrigate is praying that much needed rain will come soon.
The long range predictions are still consistent, snow on the way, maybe by the end of October! The forecasters are suggesting that we're in for an even colder winter than the previous two! That won't come as good news for many, particularly all clubs reliant on sport being played to return income. There were golf clubs last year that didn't have a round of golf played for a month or more during the worst weather before Christmas. Groundstaff at football and rugby venues will also be aiming to beat the odds to keep fixtures going. While the economy is still under the cosh, we could really have done with a mild few months.
So, make hay while this good weather remains and the very best of luck going forward, as we see what this winter brings.
Cheers
