Setting out Rinks

5 replies - Last reply at 19th Dec 11 16:38:52 - I'm getting criticised by Bowls members for the amount of times i move the rink markers left or right of centre to preserve the Greens surface/playability. Is this still common practise and do other Green Keepers still move theirs?

Green Construction Costs

4 replies - Last reply at 9th Nov 11 17:30:58 - Out of curiousity, how much have people/clubs spent constructing bowls greens and maintaining them? And to what specification? The schools business manager is going on abit of a spending spree and hopefully im getting some benefit from that, bowls is just one of the many things that was mentioned but the only one i had no knowledge of at all. Thanks

13 replies - Last reply at 31st Oct 11 17:40:36 - Has anyone used the SISIS tri-tipped blades? are they successfull? and can they be used on a mark 4 Autorotarake. Can they be bought separatly and retro-fitted on a thatch control reel - provided the spacers are reduced to 12mm? I have looked at the SISIS info and they only mention fitting on a mark 5 Autorotarake.

Protection Mats

8 replies - Last reply at 20th Oct 11 19:58:27 - I can't speak for the majority but in my area of Hertfordshire we have experienced the wettest August in the history of our green. Speaking with other local green keepers I find they are experiencing the same member complaints as I. using protection mats to bowl from It is not always the main issue some members object to their use as they find it physically demanding having to put them down and take them up. A couple of years ago we tried using them in a temporary way by putting a strip of 2"X1" down eac

13 replies - Last reply at 19th Oct 11 21:27:32 - As requested a seperate thread based on the use of crushed glass. I have copied over the previous bits from the PH item. 3 weeks ago by aturnbull Interesting exchange. Just to add my penny's worth, a little while ago we came across a severe worm problem on a golf tee, and I mean severe! At the same facility they were crushing glass from the hotel bars using a machine built by a guy doing a PhD, which crushed glass to whatever grade you wanted it. We advised a topdressing or two of glass dust and it
