Iron is commonly used as a turf hardener; it literally hardens the plant cells off to prevent it from getting disease. The sulphur constituent also slightly acidifies the local grass environment making it less conducive to turf pathogens. Iron and turf hardeners come in several forms; granular, soluble and liquid. Each offer different characteristics and are used in a wide variety of turf situations.
