Example Professional Weather Zone Narrative

Hello again !

I'm pleased to say that the very heavy rain forecast for the Plymouth Argyle and Bristol City cup matches last night did materialise - but I'm equally pleased to note that both matches just about survived the rain, as expected.

Today's main weather issues centre around frost & fog for the central belt of Scotland, and thundery rain for southern counties of England. In-between those two areas, there is little to suggest any form of weather adversity.

Taking the fog and frost first. The central lowland areas of Scotland will find things difficult all day long. With high pressure in charge over Scotland and Northern Ireland, little will change. At best, air temperatures will inch their way up to 1 or 2 degrees Celsius, but on the ground sub-zero temperature will prevail - typically close to minus 3 or 4 degrees Celsius. The fog will also prove troublesome during daylight hours, although by 1800 hours this evening I am expecting a slightly fresher wind to arrive from the south-east, which should gradually improve visibility.

Focusing now on the thundery rain that has been plaguing the south-west of England for the past 48 hours. With low pressure now tracking through the Channel, all English and Welsh counties to the south of the M4 corridor can expect large volumes of rain - both today and tonight. The rain will be heavy enough to give most of the prone areas +25mm, although +50mm is on the cards for the London area, Kent, Essex and Surrey. I expect the back-end of this rain to finally clear the Essex and Kent coasts around midnight tonight, having cleared away from the West Country around midday.

The Outlook: It's not often that things are so clear cut in the outlook as to give a cast iron prediction. But what I can be 99% sure about on this occasion is that the whole of the UK will fall under a lengthy and protracted spell of hard frost weather from Friday onwards, with freezing fog a widespread factor.

The coming weekend and Monday.Tuesday of next week will be particularly affected, with temperatures across inland parts of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland plummeting. If I was to talk about air temperatures as low as minus 10 degrees Celsius, then you can probably see where I am coming from

It's all caused by high pressure and a cold pool of air we're about to import form Scandinavia. The bad news is that all the forecast models suggest very little will change for the whole of next week. I'll of course provide you the day to day details as they become apparent, but for now and once today's rain in the south has cleared, prepare yourself for the coldest spell of the winter

Finally, many thanks to Joe Brown of Manchester Rangers who emailed to advise that he recorded 84mm of rainfall in 2 hours during last week's record breaking deluge.

Bye for now
