Council partnership partners with Allett
Local authority partnership, Adur and Worthing Councils, has taken delivery of 14 new Allett pedestrian mowers to maintain sports surfaces and parks located throughout the area served by the two West Sussex councils.
Selected following thorough examination by council supervisors and staff of the mower options available to them, the Allett mowers chosen consist of eight Tournament 24s and six Buffalo 24s, all supplied through tender-winning dealer, P Tuckwell Ltd, in association with Allett's local area dealer, AMP Services of Hove.
The requirement for a large number of new Allett mowers to be delivered ready for the 2013 season was prompted by the councils' decision last autumn to move grounds maintenance services back in-house. Turf surfaces being maintained by the mowers include 15 bowling greens, 11 cricket squares and four golf venues ranging from a par 3 nine-hole course to a putting green and pitch and putt facilities on Worthing sea front.
Formed in 2007, the working partnership formally agreed between neighbours Adur District Council and Worthing Borough Council covers the delivery of local services using a single workforce and senior officer structure. The aim is to deliver a better service to residents and council tax payers while generating significant savings by sharing common services and resources.
Council supervisor with responsibility for sports and fine turf, Roger Ide, commented that the decision to go for Allett mowers had been helped by the fact that Allett mowers had been used successfully on cricket squares previously within Worthing Borough.
"Operators like the mowers because they are simple to set and operate, easy to use and produce a very good cut," he said. "It's an advantage also to standardise on one make of mower as it helps with regular servicing, maintenance and spare parts. We are looking forward to a long and successful partnership with Allett."
