With just under three weeks left there is still time for sports clubs to bid for a share of the latest round of Sport England's Protecting Playing Fields fund.

Even more local sports playing fields will be safeguarded and improved thanks to at least £4 million of National Lottery funding. So far, 336 projects have benefited from a total of £18.4 million of investment over five rounds, with almost 1,000 pitches and nearly 3,500 acres protected and improved.

"Playing fields are a vital part of grassroots sport as they are often the place where people have their first experience of sport," said Charles Johnston, Sport England Property Director.

"The latest round of our Protecting Playing Fields legacy fund is giving even more communities the chance to protect and improve their local sports fields. With so many playing fields having already benefited from this popular fund, we're ensuring future generations have places to play sport."
