Grounds Operative

The Grounds Operative will work as part of the Estates team to provide support to the Senior Grounds Operative in the facilities management of the grounds and associated contracts to ensure the effective operation of the school.

A flexible approach to working time is needed and working ‘out of hours’ may be required e.g weekends. The premises is open primarily during term time, however due to school activities the facilities can be used throughout the year. Facilitating lettings may also be required.

A good working relationship with the Senior Grounds Operative and Estates Maintenance Manager is required on a day to day basis to ensure the maintenance of the extensive grounds are continued.

Specific Duties
• Maintain all gardens and grounds to a high standard to the schools:
• Sports ground, recreation fields and associated surfaces of grass and artificial i.e. Rugby Pitches, Cricket Wickets, Hockey, Tennis & Netball.
• Lawns, hedges, shrubs, borders and other planted areas.
• Paving, roads, drives, and other hard landscaped areas.
• Prepare maintain and assemble sports equipment as and when required.
• Carry out basic maintenance of all grounds, gardens machinery and equipment.
• Interpret and work from all instructions, drawings and specifications assisting where needed in other trades
• Carry out some basic building maintenance.
• Undertake all other gardens and grounds related activities, ie gritting, snow clearing, weeding, litter picking etc.
• Attend training events as and when require
• Understand and comply with all relevant Health, Safety, Legislative and Standards Documentation.
• Some out of normal hours working is necessary for which a time in lieu scheme is used.
• Any other duties deemed necessary by the Senior Grounds Operative or Estates Maintenance Manager and the needs of the DCSF.
