20 years on, still Independent & getting Stronger
To anyone involved in the golf and sportsturf irrigation industry, the names of York and Martin need little or no introduction. Their names have been associated with the design, inspection and analysis of irrigation system installations on many of the finest golf courses and sportspitches around Europe and further afield. What is surprising, and may lead many of us to realise how long we too have been in and around the industry!, is the fact that it was 20 years ago this year that Philip York first established what was then known as Philip York and Partners in 1985. When Mike Martin joined the practice in 1990 the company became known as York and Martin and entered the second chapter of its life. After many years service to the industry Philip York retired in 2001 and now provides some consultancy services to the company as well as enjoying his well deserved retirement. Stuart Tate joined the company in 2001 opening chapter three of the business and his arrival brought about the renaming of the company to what we all know today, York Martin International.
Although golf historically, and currently, provides the vast majority of the business, the company works on other sportsturf and landscape projects. York Martin International is irrigation consultant to Manchester United Football Club, and worked on the Euro Disney Project in France, as well as Canary Wharf and the Eden Project in UK.
The diverse challenges presented by clients, from whatever sector, in an efficient and cost-effective manner, is met with a depth of knowledge and a level of expertise and experience that is provided by the right people in the right way. York Martin International continues to strengthen its enviable reputation by employing quality people, and by being forward thinking in terms of its methodology and use of systems and technology. At the same time York Martin International has never lost, and will never lose in the future, its prime ethos of non-alignment with any one product manufacturer or preferred contractors….a truly independent consultancy working at all times for the beneficial interests of its clients.
As the company enthusiastically prepares itself for the next 20 years of business, the number of projects on the books is looking as healthy as ever and new personnel will be introduced to maintain and further enhance the levels of service and expertise. Very many of the current and next generation of golf, sportsturf and landscape irrigation projects around Europe and the globe will bear the name and hallmark of York Martin International.
