The Hayesbrook School, which specialises in sport, will receive £55,000 to level its pitches and fix the fields' drainage.

"We're very pleased," said deputy head David Rowe, whose school is one of 75 around the country to be awarded a portion of the Department for Children, Schools and Families grant. "It's going to be used to improve the drainage so that football matches and rugby matches don't get cancelled during the winter," he said, "and level off the pitches so the surfaces are of the best quality."
