The Wisley Golf Club 1.jpgThe Wisley Golf Club in Surrey has taken delivery of three new Massey Ferguson compact tractors to assist with day-to-day maintenance of the club's Robert Trent Jones Jnr signature golf course, comprising three distinctive and challenging loops of nine holes.

Supplied by local Massey Ferguson dealer, Sendmarsh Tractors Ltd, the MF tractor models selected by Wisley course manager, Steve Byrne, are a 38hp MF 1540 model with a 12 x 12 synchro shuttle mechanical transmission and two 32hp MF 1531 models, both equipped with a three-range hydrostatic transmission. The three new tractors are fitted with turf tyres and foldable roll-over protection frames and join two existing higher horsepower MF tractors in use at The Wisley Golf Club.

According to the club's head mechanic, Stewart Cheeseman, the three new compact tractors will be used primarily for trailer work although the larger model will be employed also on solid and hollow tine aeration and tree debris and leaf clear-up operations from late autumn through to early spring using a rear-mounted blower.

In addition to normal everyday tasks requiring the transport and distribution of materials by trailer, the course is undergoing a fairly extensive refurbishment and improvement programme involving the movement of large quantities of soil, sand and other materials.

"The high power-to-weight ratio and low noise levels of the new MF tractors are proving ideal for work which needs to be carried out as quickly as possible yet with sensitivity and respect for golfers and the environment," commented Stewart. "I like the tractors also because they are straightforward to look after and are supported extremely well by local dealer, Sendmarsh Tractors."
