Aintree races away with Wiedenmann Terra Spikes

By Helen Windsor

Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool, one of the premier sporting venues in Britain and home to the world renowned Grand National, has recently taken delivery of two Wiedenmann Terra Spike aerators from local dealers Turner Groundscare.

The larger of the two machines, the Terra Spike XP, will be used on the racecourse, while the smaller Greens Terra Spike will be used on the new nine-hole golf course, which is situated within the Grand National circuit.WiedAintree.jpg

Adrian Kay, Head Groundsman at Aintree commented, "Deep aeration plays a significant part in the maintenance of both the race and golf course at Aintree, and when the time came to replace our existing equipment, we undertook substantial research into identifying what machinery would best suit our requirements. After attending a Wiedenmann demo day and seeing the Terra Spikes in action, it was clear that they would be most suitable."

"Both pieces of equipment have been in use for a couple of months and we are delighted with their performance. They both have an extremely durable design, while being considerably more user friendly than other machines on the market. The controls, which were clear and easy to use, and the mechanics of the aerators were particularly impressive.

"However it was the overall package that was the biggest selling feature, and in particular, the service and aftercare that we have received from our dealers Turner Groundcare has been of the highest order."
