Amenity Forum Announces New Chairman

Amenity ForumThe Amenity Forum is pleased to announce that Professor John Moverley OBE has been appointed as their new Chairman. The formal hand-over of the responsibilities to the new Chairman will be at the meeting in March. In the intervening period he plans to work closely with the current Chairman to ensure that he is fully conversant with the organisation and its members.

John Moverley is a well-known figure in the Horticulture industry and land based sector generally but particularly in the field of education and business. He was Chief Executive and Principal at Myerscough College in Lancashire until the end of 2005. His combined career has had a strong commercial focus across the private, public and charitable sectors.

Jon Allbutt, Chairman commented 'this is excellent news for the Amenity Forum to have John take on the responsibilities of the Chair. With his wide experience the organisation will be guaranteed to continue its valuable work and in addition move forward to meet new challenges and significantly develop the activity of the Forum'

Concerning his new role John Moverley stated 'I believe strongly in the need for proper representation of the amenity sector and wish to take the Forum forward, building on its current work and broadening its activities in line with the needs of an expanding membership in areas such as training and skills as well as others


The Amenity Forum developed as a result of the amenity work in the Voluntary Initiative.

The Amenity Forum has twenty-five member organisations representing the sector and six Government observers.

The Amenity Forum is recognised as the lead 'consultative organisation' for the amenity sector and is a member of the Implementation Group led by the Pesticides Safety Directorate for the Government's Amenity Action Plan.
