Despite the embarrassment of five successive losses to Bangladesh in international fixtures, the contest between our Asian visitors and the second string West Indies team has revealed a wider pool from which to select the nucleus of our team.
Sadly, it has also highlighted the baffling philosophy behind our pitch preparation or maybe has simply exposed the inadequacies of our ground staff.
The series was not only lost by the men in the middle but by those who prepared surfaces that made the Bangladesh spinners feel at home.
The WICB has indicated its intention to adopt a policy of interviewing candidates for the captaincy and they have identified certain criteria to be satisfied by those desirous of playing on the team. Maybe the time has come for a similar type of approach to be adopted in selecting our pitch technicians.
