Cheshire and North Wales professionals are celebrating a double sponsorship deal from a firm that's helped to create some of the world's best golf courses.
Sandbach-based Bathgate Group have pledged £4,000 out of a combined £6,000 prize fund for next month's county Professional Golf APGA Open at Mobberley and the Matchplay Championship which reaches its climax at Wilmslow in October.
PGA North Region secretary Graham Maly said: "The events will provide a great boost for the area which has some fantastic courses."
The sponsor is the parent company of Bathgate Silica Sand, a major UK supplier of sand, root zone and top dressings for golf courses for more than 60 years.
David Robinson, boss of Bathgate Silica Sand, said: "Our support extends our commitment to the industry, particularly in the North West. We have extensive experience, technical know-how and first class service to back up our products which are widely used across the nation's golf courses and other sporting venues."
The PGA's association with the Bathgate Group has been facilitated through Gary Donnison, Mobberley's golf director. He is a former PGA North Region champion and has been sponsored as a professional by Bathgate for the last three years.
Mark Price, Bathgate's Group chief executive, said: "We are delighted to sponsor the PGA and I'm sure Mobberley and Wilmslow clubs are well placed to stage excellent tournaments."
The Cheshire and North Wales Open is on September 20-21 and the matchplay finals on October 17.
