6 Big concern over pitches

Crawley Borough Council have hit back at claims their pitches are dangerous.

They came under fire from Ram captain Tarum Patel who is worried players could be seriously injured as pitches are not up to scratch, he claims.

Patel, skipper of the Sussex Invitation League division three side, branded grounds "dangerous" and demanded action is taken before players suffer bad blows from irregularly bouncing deliveries.

Patel said: "All of the council pitches in Crawley are diabolical and dangerous and it is only a matter of time before a cricketer sustains a serious injury.

"There is no consistency in the bounce of the ball and deliveries off a good length have been hitting players on the arm and face, sustaining small bruising, but thankfully nothing worse so far."
