Blakedown Group Chairman Retires.
David Smith retires at the end of March 2004 after 36 years with Blakedown Landscapes. David became a director in 1975, when the company was a subsidiary of the Blakedown Nurseries Group. Since then the company has grown 12-fold and diversified into sports facility construction and all aspects of commercial landscaping and related civil engineering.
Seventy of David's colleagues from the groups 5 offices, and his family celebrated with considerable enthusiasm on 26th March, and David was presented with gifts by the new group Chairman.
"The company, its staff and the industry (through BALI and SAPCA) have been my passion since I left college. It might be unusual in this day and age, but I have never wanted to do anything else. Les Chandler will be taking on the role of Chairman, and am confident the Management team will continue to further develop the Blakedown group in the future".
David will devote more of his time to his other passions of carriage driving trials and training young harness horses.
We are sure you will join us in wishing David a long, happy and fulfilling retirement.
