With unbroken blue skies and not a hint of rain, the £80million retractable structure has so far acted as little more than an expensive parasol to keep the sun from frazzling the occupants of the Royal Box.

Nevertheless, Murray believes it may already have subtly altered the moisture of the grass on Centre Court - particularly for evening matches as the dew settles - as well as the lighting.
