People are being urged to try a new sport by attending an open day at a Hartlepool bowls club.
Eldon Grove Bowling Club is organising the event on Saturday, April 25.
Bosses say the idea is to try to encourage a greater participation in lawn green bowling.
They say bowling is a sport open to all ages, it encourages gentle exercise and gets people out into the open air. It is also a good way to meet people and make new friends.
Club president Ray Elliston said: "Those who have never tried the game are invited to have ago at our open day. All that is needed is a pair of flat soled shoes.
"People from all parts of the town bowl at Eldon Grove. At the open day we would encourage new people to join our club but if it was more convenient for them to play elsewhere in the town, we would direct them to another club."
He added: "Following on from the open day, for £5, we would offer new bowlers eight hours of bowling with tuition. The £5 would be deducted from their annual membership if they decided to join Eldon Grove.
"Eldon Grove Bowling Club try to make lawn green bowling available at a cost that everyone can afford. Wherever possible volunteers do the maintenance work around the club, including cutting the green twice a week. Fundraising is carried out throughout the year just to make ends meet.
