Bristol footballer's knee ripped open by metal left in ground

Press Releasein Football

A Sunday league footballer is considering legal action after his knee was ripped open on an old goalpost socket buried in a pitch.

Carl Rutter was playing for Merryweather Old Boys at the BAWA club in Filton when the horrific injury happened.

Mr Rutter's leg was opened to the bone, and his team-mates had to hold his wound together to stop the bleeding while they waited for the ambulance.

The 33-year-old sales manager was rushed to Frenchay Hospital, where he had injections to numb the pain.

Mr Rutter had a lengthy operation to close the wound and finally left hospital on Monday night and is now at home in Bradley Stoke.
